1. Use lots of natural light.
2. Take photographs on a solid color surface like a blanket or sheet on the floor. Patterned blankets and clothes distract from the subject of the photograph.
3. Take several shots of the same pose until the photograph is in focus and centered.
4. Get close to the subject. Make sure to move distracting object out of the way.
5. Take the picture at the same level as the subject. For a baby, lay the baby on the floor and take the picture from directly above. For a toddler, sit on the floor at their height.
6. Don't overexpose a picture with a flash that is not needed.
